What is a Symbol?

A symbol is a representation of an idea expressed visually a particular object or shape.

Alphabets and Language

Every alphabet uses symbols. Every letter is a symbol for a sound make. It used to be that writing was seen as something sacred only those of higher talent or class could engage in. Literacy was not common place for the majority of human history with the rise of public school education becoming a more prominent reality after certain technological accomplishments came about along with certain social and civil accomplishments.
The preservation of ideas through symbols was treated with sacred duty for the majority of written history with it either being used for cultural story telling, religious ideas, and economic record keeping with rare occasions of dedicated historians having free reign to preserve history as they understood it through the conscientious act to record history.
